Dr. Numan Ahmad (Assistant Professor, HoD (Research), and PEB Coordinator) represented the National Institute of Transportation (NIT), NUST, Pakistan at the 2026 Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. The prestigious forum brought together more than 10,000 transportation policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions from worldwide.

Dr. Numan presented four peer-reviewed research papers on transportation safety, crash modelling, and injury severity, highlighting transportation challenges and data from Pakistan. These presentations showcased NIT’s growing impact in global transportation research.

This success reflects the contributions of Dr. Numan’s team including NIT students (Zia-ur-Rehman, Saad Ahmad, Mah-e-Kinaan, and Usama Arshad), faculty (Dr. Syed Kamran Hussain Shah), and collaborators including Dr. Afzal Ahmed (Institute of Transport Studies, University of Leeds, UK) and Dr. Izza Anwer (UET Lahore, Pakistan), whose dedication and innovative work helped bring these studies to fruition.

Several senior professionals recognised Dr. Numan’s commitment and emerging leadership to advance transportation sciences in Pakistan, inspiring future engineers, and promoting applied research in human factors and transportation safety. Several senior professors and practitioners who generously took the time to visit NIT’s posters are affiliated with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), multiple U.S. State Departments of Transportation, Gloucestershire County Council (UK), University of Wisconsin–Madison, University of Central Florida, University of Alabama, Iowa State University, Penn State University, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Some of them also discussed potential research collaboration opportunities with the NIT team.

NIT congratulates Dr. Numan, the participating students, faculty, and collaborators for representing the institute with excellence on this prestigious international forum.
